“The interaction between musicians from different cultures creates magic”
Music is my lifetime companion. My passion is its healing and unifying effect. From this source the Beyond Foundation, the Seeschau “House of Sacred Arts” and all music projects have emerged. Encounters and collaborations with musicians from different countries and cultures have inspired me to communicate human values such as understanding, love and respect through music.

“Sound is the first and last energy of life”
As entrepreneur by heart, driven by the desire to create, I am happy to look back on a fascinating career and journey that has just begun. I had the chance to create one of the best-known media, retail and gastro companies in Switzerland and I am still engaged in the business world, concentrating on new media and technologies. Beyond entrepreneurship, engagement in culture and public interest - giving back what I enjoy financially and spiritually is the most important part of my life.

In 1998 I founded the charity organization “Tischlein Deck Dich” (The Magic Table), which distributes 22 million meals to people in need. Together with my wife, we set up the Beyond Foundation in order to invest resources into music projects of impact for humanity.

“Music is one of the most important and touching achievements of humanity. Its power is limitless and uniting. Beyond Music is a perfect example of this”
I have been the artistic and executive director of the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra since 2004. During my tenure, the orchestra has become one of the leading Swiss orchestras with an international scope. Having nearly doubled both its budget and its number of concerts, the orchestra today performs in first-class venues all over Europe and Asia and records for global labels. I have also developed a new entrepreneurial approach to financing and running a cultural institution. For this purpose, in 2008, I founded the private foundation “Stiftung für das Luzerner Sinfonieorchester” funded by major Swiss entrepreneurs.

I am founder and artistic director of the festival Zaubersee, dedicated to Russian Chamber Music located in Lucerne. Besides this, I serve as a board member for an international charity foundation and act as a jury member for competitions and award-giving institutions.

Mathieu Jaton
Mathieu Jaton, born 12 June 1975 in Vevey, music lover and graduate of the Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne, heads the Montreux Jazz Festival, an event that hosts 250,000 spectators and more than 380 concerts over two weeks each summer in Montreux, Switzerland.
More infos
Mathieu Jaton grew up in Attalens (in the Canton of Fribourg), a village that saw him take his first steps in event organization as he and his friends set up a variety of events and music festivals. During his studies he juggled the management of a bar and concert venue while playing guitar and singing in a jazz rock band. He joined the permanent Montreux Jazz Festival office in 1999 to head up Marketing and Sponsoring. He was named General Secretary of the Festival in 2001. Working at the Festival alongside Claude Nobs, who had become his mentor, he developed the values that have always defined him: a flair for hospitality, and a deep passion for music.
Following the passing of Claude Nobs in 2013, he assumed direction of the Fondation du Festival de Jazz de Montreux, of the Montreux Jazz Artists Foundation, and Montreux Jazz International SA. He presently also serves on the boards of the Ecole de Jazz et de Musique Actuelle (Lausanne) and the Mühle Hunzinken (Rubigen) and is a member of the Association Label Suisse.
Supported by some thirty year-round employees and more than 2000 staff members during the Festival period, Mathieu Jaton cultivates genuine, direct relationships and is guiding the Festival towards its future while ensuring continuity in the savoir-faire and values that make Montreux so unique in the world of music.

The love for music runs like a thread through my life. After studying law, my path led me to the legal departments of Bertelsmann Music Group in New York City and Munich and to the International Artist Development department of Arista Records in Nashville. This was followed by eight years in a Munich law firm. On an honorary capacity, I am member of the Presidium of the Munich Concert Society, which was founded more than 30 years ago and whose main concern is the support of highly talented musicians and the organization of renowned music contests.
